Meet Emma
Hello!
My name is Emma Elkins. I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, or IBCLC for short. I grew up in a small town in Northern California with a large extended family with lots of babies and kids always running around. I have lived in the Nashville area since 2021.
I began my journey to becoming your lactation consultant in 2019, becoming fully licensed in 2023.For my undergrad, I studied biology with minors in child development and psychology from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Knowing that I wanted to work with young children and/or babies, I completed a masters of advance study in maternal and child nutrition from UC Davis in 2019. This program introduced me to the world of lactation and the joy of empowering parents to achieve their goals of feeding their children.
After Completing my degrees, I completed the required 500 internship hours of hands-on clinical experience with breastfeeding mothers and babies while being supervised by multiple IBCLCs. I was able to experience many settings, including hospital, WIC, private practice, and in-home. I quickly realized I have a strong preference to working with families in their own home. The consultations can be longer and more customizable based on the needs of the family; parents are able to use the the resources they already have and practice with the LC in the setting they will be feeding their baby when on their own.
My goal of every consultation is to leave with the parents feeling confident and competent however they are feeding their baby.
We will get to know each other and discuss how you want your breastfeeding/feeding journey to look based on your unique circumstances. We will create a feeding plan together and adapt as needed. My focus is always to establish an environment of trust and collaboration to allow for open communication.
